Feel the Restorative Power of Sound
What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is a practice of using sound and frequency for relaxation, healing, and personal development. We all have our own frequencies or resonances and they can sometimes become imbalanced thanks to stress, illness, or environmental factors. The methods used in a sound bath aim to bring your body back into healthy vibration. It’s like being “bathed” in sound. I think my teacher, Sara Auster, describes it best:
I use mixed-metal singing bowls, which have been around since the 12th century. Tuning into the beautiful sound they make – similar to a gong or a bell – allows you to experience deep relaxation. I also use quartz frosted bowls, Crystal Tones Alchemy bowls, Grotta Sonora gongs, a Theta Ocean Drum, and many other instruments for sound experiences.
Why do I want it?
Have you ever noticed how you seem to feel rather than hear certain sounds? Like the thumping bass at a concert or a snippet of music where one section of the orchestra is really going for it? Now you have an idea of the sensation of being in a sound bath!
The vibrations created by the singing bowls slow down your respiratory system, calm your nervous system, lower your heart rate, and relax your brainwave patterns. The overall effect is a lovely sense of deep well-being, improved sleep, and reduced stress and anxiety.
How do you deliver it to me?
My vibrational sound sessions are a combination of savasana, singing bowls, and mindfulness. The bowls are placed on or around you and rung, sending the healing vibrations right through your body.
I run both private 1:1 sessions and group sessions for deep relaxation. Please feel free to contact me to hear more about how you can experience the benefits of sound healing.
What are your qualifications?
Playing a singing bowl is easy! You can buy one on Amazon and make it sing without any training at all. Easy peasy, right? Well, I think it’s important to understand how sound can impact the mind and body, and I set out to learn from the most experienced people I could find.
I am a classically trained pianist with a background in music that goes back to when I was 7. My oldest daughter gave me my first singing bowl in 2010 to use during savasana in my yoga studio. I think that getting a singing bowl is a little like getting a tattoo…once you have one, you’re going to want more! Well, at least that is true for me!
Here are some of the places I have studied:
Sound Healing Academy
Vibrational Sound Association
British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST)
Sara Auster (my very favorite!)
