What is a sound bath?

“A Sound Bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your mind and body.”

- Sara Auster

A sound bath is a practice of using sound and frequency for relaxation, healing, and personal development. We all have our own frequencies or resonances and they can sometimes become imbalanced thanks to stress, illness, or environmental factors. The methods used in a sound bath aim to bring your body back into healthy vibration. It’s like being “bathed” in sound.

I use mixed-metal singing bowls, which have been around since the 12th century. Tuning into the beautiful sound they make – similar to a gong or a bell – allows you to experience deep relaxation. I also use quartz frosted bowls, Crystal Tones Alchemy bowls, Grotta Sonora gongs, a Theta Ocean Drum, and many other instruments for sound experiences.

Why do I want it?

Have you ever noticed how you seem to feel rather than hear certain sounds? Like the thumping bass at a concert or a snippet of music where one section of the orchestra is really going for it? Now you have an idea of the sensation of being in a sound bath!

The vibrations created by the singing bowls slow down your respiratory system, calm your nervous system, lower your heart rate, and relax your brainwave patterns. The overall effect is a lovely sense of deep well-being, improved sleep, and reduced stress and anxiety.
